Hijazi Arabs

Joshua Project lists the Hijazi Arabs in Saudi Arabia as an unreached people group, with an estimated population of 9.9 million. Their primary language is Arabic, Hijazi, and the largest religious tradition is Islam. The published Christian-adherent range is 0–0.1%, while the evangelical range is 0–0.1%. Those figures describe a setting in which a self-sustaining,… culturally rooted evangelical church movement is limited in relation to the size of the population. For Gospel engagement, language and trust matter. Ministry among the Hijazi Arabs should communicate clearly in Arabic, Hijazi and respect the social, family, and religious realities of a predominantly Muslim community. Where public Christian activity is sensitive, patient relationships, Scripture access, digital media, diaspora connections, and locally led discipleship can be important avenues of witness. Where churches already exist, strengthening mature local believers and helping them disciple others is generally more sustainable than depending on outside leadership. The need is not simply for contact with Christian information, but for understandable access to the message of Jesus and healthy communities of believers who can live out their faith in ordinary life. Prayer can focus on open doors for Scripture, wise and courageous local believers, trustworthy relationships, and churches that reproduce across families and communities. Because Joshua Project's figures are estimates, they should be read as indicators of the scale of need rather than exact counts. Even so, the published data point to a substantial Gospel-access challenge among the Hijazi Arabs in Saudi Arabia and make this people group a significant prayer and missions focus within Middle East.
