William Carey
In 1785, a young English schoolteacher named William Carey learned that vast regions of the world had never heard the name of Jesus. Convinced that the Gospel was for every nation, he challenged others to join him in taking it to the unreached.
When Carey prepared to leave for India, he told his friends:
“I will go down into the mine,
if you will hold the ropes”
For the next 41 years, Carey served in India, translating Scripture, modeling mission entrepreneurship, and laying the foundation for gospel advance. His friends never went with him—but their prayers, support, and sacrifice made the mission possible.
Today, the call remains the same. Some go. Others hold the rope. Together, we advance the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
