A History of God's Faithfulness in Macedonia

Evangelical mission in Macedonia is best understood through its own historical setting. Methodist mission developed in Macedonia during the late Ottoman era, and small evangelical communities survived Yugoslav socialism; after independence, local churches expanded Bible work, relief, and church planting. The movement changed as local Christians moved from receiving ministry to leading churches, teaching Scripture, serving communities, and sometimes sending missionaries themselves.

  1. Early Beginnings

    Methodist and other evangelical mission work developed in Macedonia during the late Ottoman period.

  2. 1900s

    Small congregations continued through the Balkan wars, changing borders, and the formation of Yugoslavia.

  3. Independence Era

    Under socialist Yugoslavia, evangelical churches remained legal but limited and numerically very small.

  4. Modern Movement

    Independence in 1991 opened wider opportunities for Bible distribution, humanitarian service, and new church planting.

  5. Today

    Macedonian evangelicals now seek stronger local leadership while serving both Macedonian and Albanian communities.
