A History of God's Faithfulness in Samoa

John Williams and LMS workers arrived in 1830; Samoan pastors rapidly carried Christianity village to village and later served as missionaries across the Pacific. That history now shapes how Samoa’s churches understand local leadership, witness, and mission. The next chapter will be strongest when local churches disciple their own people and engage a deeply churched society needing renewal beyond cultural Christianity with biblical clarity and cultural wisdom.

  1. Early Beginnings

    John Williams and LMS workers arrived in 1830.

  2. 1900s

    Samoan pastors rapidly carried Christianity village to village and later served as missionaries across the Pacific.

  3. Independence Era

    Samoan pastors quickly became missionaries themselves, carrying Christianity throughout Polynesia and the wider Pacific.

  4. Modern Movement

    Samoan churches now balance deep cultural influence with youth migration, cyclone resilience, and continued Pacific missionary sending.

  5. Today

    Samoa's one small UPG matters, but the larger opportunity is deeper discipleship and continued missionary influence across the Pacific.
